Felt washers are flat felt rings that seal, space, cushion and hold oil around shafts, bolts and bearings. Feltrova cuts them from SAE wool felt or polyester felt to your inner diameter, outer diameter and thickness, with or without adhesive backing, from 100 pieces.
What are felt washers used for?
Most felt washers do one of four jobs.
- Oil retention: a soaked washer feeds a thin film of oil to a shaft or bushing.
- Dust exclusion: a washer on a bearing housing keeps grit away from the rolling elements.
- Cushioning and spacing: under bolts and fasteners, a felt cushion washer spreads load and damps vibration.
- Noise control: between metal and plastic parts in appliances, a thin washer stops buzz and rattle.
Felt keeps working as it wears. SAE wool felt recovers 99% of its thickness within one minute after a 10% deflection, so a washer springs back after each load cycle.
Which felt grade suits a felt washer?

White, gray and dyed washers are all possible. Red dyed washers, for example, help assembly staff spot the right part on the line.
Can you order felt washers in inch sizes?
Yes. Send the print the way it is drawn. An inch call-out such as OD 0.375in, ID 0.190in and a thickness written as a pair, 0.201/0.175in, is quoted without conversion. Our standard tolerance on ID and OD is ±0.010in, which is the same ±0.25mm shown above.
- Screw sizes: a #10 screw measures 0.190in across the thread, so that is the ID many prints call out for a washer that sits under its head.
- Thickness as two numbers: 0.201/0.175in is a maximum and a minimum. We pick a felt sheet whose thickness falls inside that band and say which one on the quote.
- Grade left open: a print that says only “wool felt per SAE J314” leaves the grade to you. Tell us the job and we suggest one from the SAE felt grade chart.
- Either system: metric drawings are just as welcome. We quote in whichever units your print uses.
How do you specify a felt washer on a drawing?
Six values make a complete call-out. Missing any one of them slows the quote.
- Inner diameter (ID)
- Outer diameter (OD)
- Finished thickness
- Felt grade, for example SAE F-1, or “polyester”
- Adhesive backing: yes or no
- Annual quantity and sample quantity

What is the minimum order for felt washers?
100 pieces per size. Samples ship in three days after the size and grade are confirmed.
Wool or polyester felt washers?
Wool holds oil and recovers better, so use it for seals and wicks. Polyester costs less and suits spacers and noise control.
Can felt washers have adhesive on one side?
Yes. Pressure-sensitive adhesive is laminated before cutting and supplied on a peel-off liner.
Do you need a new die for every size?
For repeat runs, yes. Samples and short runs can be CNC knife cut with no tooling.
Where are your felt washers made?
Country of origin is China. We cut them in our own plant in Foshan, Guangdong, so the washers are made and shipped by the same company that quotes them.
How much do felt washers cost?
It depends on felt grade, size, quantity and any adhesive backing. Send a drawing or a sample and we reply with a price within one working day. Sample charges vary by part and are set out in the quote. The minimum order is 100 pieces per size.
